  • Go To

Castlemartyr Resort

Where: Castlemartyr, Co. Cork

Why: While some hotels are strict about the kind of dogs that they can host, at Castlemartyr the only condition is that they are "cute, adorable and well behaved". They'll even have two ready made friends on site - the hotel is home to two Irish Setters, Earl & Countess. There are 220 acres of landscape to explore, from formal gardens to Castlemartyr Wood, plus some gorgeous sandy beaches nearby.

How: Nightly rates start at €180pp, including breakfast. The pet fee is €50.

Lough Eske Castle

Lough Eske Castle, Donegal

Where: Donegal, Co. Donegal

Why: If you're treating yourself to a night away, there's no reason why the pooch should be left out. When you arrive for a dog-friendly getaway at Lough Eske Castle, they'll be presented with their own welcome bed, basket and blanket, food and water tray, as well as a toy. It's not just for dogs, either - you could bring your cat if you'd prefer.

How: Dogs and cats are welcome in the courtyard guestrooms and garden suites. Nightly rates in those start at €230, including breakfast.

Coopershill, Co. Sligo

Where: Riverstown, Co. Sligo

Why: If it's walkies you're after, you can't go wrong in Co. Sligo, land of craggy mountains and sweeping beaches. Coopershill is in the thick of it all, on 500 acres of farmland scattered with grazing deer. When you've tired out your dog, he's welcome to share one of the pet-friendly bedrooms, or sleep in the stables (that double up as kennels). The house itself is a gorgeous, historic family home, with stately antiques and regal four-poster beds. It's also home to their own dog, Alice.

How: Nightly rates start from €99pps, including breakfast.

The Twelve

The Twelve, Galway

Where: Barna, Co. Galway

Why: After a stay at The Twelve, it's likely your dog won't want to go home. In your pet-friendly suite, your canine friend will find a doggie welcome bag, complete with treats and a toy, as well as their own food bowl and mineral water. If you want to push the boat out, the Pet Concierge can organise local treats like bones from the butcher and even doggy birthday parties. They can also recommend the best nearby parks, bogs and beaches for a walk that everyone will enjoy.

How: Nightly rates start from €160, including breakfast, in a pet-friendly suite.
