Vivamayr

Where: Austria

Why: If you're looking for something a little more intense than a regular detox, then Vivamayr may just fit the bill. Opened in 2004, the clinic uses the principles of modern Mayr medicine, billed as a "natural cure based on intestinal cleansing". After an initial consultation and examination, you'll be given a schedule of treatments as well as a bespoke diet for your stay.

How: Nightly rates start at €195 for a single room (treatments are extra). There are two locations in Austria - fly to either Salzburg or Ljubljana indirect with Lufthansa (lufthansa.com).

SHA Wellness Resort

Where: Alicante, Spain

Why: It's a favourite with models like Naomi Campbell, and it only takes a glance at the chic rooms and stylish pools to see why. Their aim is to promote health and wellness through exercise, treatments and diet, with a strong emphasis on macrobiotics. Programmes can focus on general fitness and weight loss, or more specific requirements like quitting smoking or sleep recovery.

How: 2-day packages start at €550, with single suites from €260 a night. Fly to Alicante with Ryanair (ryanair.com)

Where: Bath, England

Why: The subterranean springs in Bath have long been lauded for their healing properties. And now you can reap the benefits just as the Romans did, when the first UK hotel with its own natural thermal spa opens in July. Make the most of the waters with a one-hour 'Bath Circuit', where you can make a loop of the thermal pools, as well as ice chambers, saunas and a steam room.

How: Nightly rates start at €389. Fly to Bristol with Aer Lingus (aerlingus.com)

Grand Resort Bad Ragaz

Where: Switzerland

Why: The naturally warm spring water of Tamina Gorge has been utilised by those living in the mountain town of Bad Ragaz since 1242. Nowadays, it's best experienced in the thermal spa at the Grand Resort Bad Ragaz, where you can submerse yourself in its healing waters in style. In the spa suites, you'll even get the benefit of the thermal water from every tap.

How: Nightly rates start at €232 with breakfast. Fly to Zurich with Swiss (swiss.com)
