Fantastic 4: Boot Camps to whip you into shape in 2015
New Year, new you!
Nicola Brady hits January running with four fantastic fitness bootcamps in Zanzibar, Mexico, Ibiza and Kent. Ready, steady, exercise!
WHERE: Tulum, Mexico
WHY: At Bikini Bootcamp, daily classes are kept varied, challenging and fun, as opposed to a continual slog of workouts. You might find yourself partaking in a little African dance, power walking on the beach or chilling out with a spot of yoga. There's an average of five hours of exercise a day, combined with journaling, local excursions, spa treatments and a bounty of healthy foods.
HOW: Prices start at $2,350pp (€1,885) for the six-night programme. Fly to Cancun with British Airways or Virgin Atlantic, via London (ebookers.ie).
WHY: The philosophy at Wildfitness is a fairly simple one. Their mission is to get you out in the open and exercising as you would when you were a child - climbing trees, running barefoot and playing with abandon. It doesn't hurt that you're doing this on a stunning Zanzibar beach. You'll learn to live "wild", embracing the hunter-gatherer approach to life, while participating in training sessions and eating highly nutritious food.
HOW: The One Week Boost course starts at £2,385pp (€3,006). Fly to Zanzibar with Emirates (emirates.com).
No 1 Bootcamp
WHY: There's no messing around at No 1 Bootcamp. You'll rise bright and early before heading into a day filled with circuit training, team sports and hiking, led by super-strict trainers, most of whom come from a military background. This, in combination with a strict diet, means that campers lose an average of a pound a day. There are bootcamps held in Norfolk and Marrakech, but their spot in Ibiza is idyllic.
HOW: Prices for the week long boot camp in Ibiza start at £850pp (€1,071). You can fly to Ibiza with Ryanair (ryanair.com).
GI Jane Bootcamp
WHERE: Kent, England
WHY: If you're going to spend your days with a bright red face, huffing and puffing and dripping with sweat, you mightn't enjoy being in mixed company. All of the bootcamps run by GI Jane are for women only, and are attended by ladies from all over the world. You'll work out with military instructors, and there's a heavy emphasis on nutrition.
HOW: Weekend programmes start at £399 (€503). Locations are always within an hour of London: fly with Aer Lingus (aerlingus.com) or Ryanair (ryanair.com). There are plans to start bootcamps in Ireland in 2015.
