If you've been starving yourself of fun this Lent - or even if you haven't - Mark Evans has several suggestions for mini getaways this Easter.

Chick this out: the K Club

It's got all the trappings that you'd expect from a five-star hotel - and a few surprises too. Yup, it's the K Club, which is home to some real-life chicks this Easter.

The hotel will host a range of kids' activities, and families have full use of the pool, steam room, outdoor hot tub and other luxuries.

On Easter Sunday there's the annual egg hunt around the grounds, plus daily duck races on the River Liffey.

The kids' club features junior golf clinics, kiddie discos and face painting.

The two-night Easter break costs from €280pps, and includes two nights' B&B in a superior room, with a four-course evening meal on one evening in The River Room Restaurant. Children under six go free when sharing a room with their parents and also dine for free.

Family fun in Kilkenny

The Newpark Hotel - recently voted Ireland's No 1 for families by TripAdvisor - is offering an Easter egg hunt and Willy Wonka Chocolate Egg-perience where children can make and decorate their own egg. The three-night break is priced from €179 per adult sharing.

The special itinerary includes supervised arts and crafts sessions, plus a supervised Home dinner with movie night for the kids on one evening. Aghadoe also has competition prizes on offer with some goodie bags courtesy of Twentieth Century Fox.

Those staying on Easter Sunday will be treated to an Easter Egg Hunt, too.

The break includes two nights' accommodation in a family lakeside room, breakfast for all each morning, dinner for the grown-ups on an evening of choice and a supervised children's dinner.

It costs from €339 per adult with max of two adults and two children under 12 free sharing family room. It's valid from Saturday, April 4 to Wednesday, April 8.
