Ryanair's latest flash sale has 100,000 midweek flights from just €5 in April and May, but you need to act fast.

As we publish, one-way €5 fares are available from Dublin to Newcastle and Brussels Charleroi, and from Shannon to Berlin Schonefeld.

Various other Irish routes are available from €9.99, €14.99 and €16.99.

The €5 sale ends at 6pm this evening, Wednesday, March 22.

Since the flash sale was launched, numerous customers have taken to social media to report the Ryanair.com website as "down".

The website is scheduled to close for maintenance for eight hours from 6.30pm this evening to 2.30am on Thursday, March 23 - a time during which online check-in and changes to existing flights will not be available, the airline has said.

Closures were clearly not expected earlier, however.

"We have experienced intermittent issues with a web server," Ryanair has since confirmed to Independent.ie Travel. "We apologise to affected customers and will launch another exciting flash sale on the Ryanair.com website very soon."

Tonight's eight-hour shutdown is to facilitate a "systems upgrade", it says.
