Franciscan monks played by actors Patrick Moylan and Thomas Doran took a step back in time to 1231 to commemorate the medieval origins of brewing at the Abbey of St Francis.

The multi-sensory and interactive experience is located at the venue for brewing from medieval times in Kilkenny, until the recent transfer of Smithwick's production to St James's Gate in Dublin.

The new Smithwick's Experience aims to give visitors the smells, sounds and tastes of centuries of brewing.

Diageo hopes the new attraction will mirror the success of Dublin's Guinness Storehouse.
