It's the world's biggest travel photography competition, with more than 130,000 entries. Launched to mark the publication of 'Lonely Planet's' 100 millionth guidebook, the overall winner has just been announced: a picture featuring five women parading on a performance stage at Pushkar ka Mela, an annual five-day camel and livestock fair held in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It was taken by Sreesailam Pasupula, 33, from Mumba and was declared the best travel picture of the year by a panel of experts.

If you fancy yourself as an amateur travel photographer, we’re offering you the chance to win a Canon Powershot camera simply by sending us your best holiday snaps. Mail your picture, which must be at least 1Mb in size, to travel@independent.ie, along with your name, address, telephone number, the date and location of the picture. Winners will receive a camera provided by Canon (canon.ie). Worth €319, it has many features including a 14x zoom lens and high-definition movie function.
