10 amazing travel photos you won't believe were taken on an iPhone...
Forget the SLR. Sometimes a smartphone is all you need to snap the ultimate holiday pick, as these competition winners attest.
The IPPAWARDS are the world's longest running iPhone photography competition, celebrating the creativity of Apple addicts since 2007. Entries were received from 17 countries, including Ireland, with first prize going to Julio Lucas of Bradenton, Florida.
Bradenton's photo of a lone figure trekking Argentina's Perito Moreno Glacier, which kicks off our gallery above, saw him win Photographer of the Year.
Second place in the travel category went to Jordan Fraser, a Belfast-based commercial and wedding photographer, for his photo of a boy walking his dog in the snow. It's the second photo in our gallery, above.
All entries for the IPPAWARDS must be taken with an iPhone, iPod or iPad. It is not permitted to alter images in Photoshop or any desktop image processing program, so many of the images appear refreshingly free of Instagram-style filters.
The overall winner receives an iPad Air (16GB, Wi-Fi), with first place in each category awarded a awarded a souvenir-sized Suisse gold bar.
Other categories include Animals, Architecture, Children, Flowers, Food, Landscape, Lifestyle, Nature, News/Events, Others, People, Seasons, Still Life, Sunset and Trees.
Even with best DSLR, I'd never better any of these iPhone photos. It's not about the camera. http://t.co/HC2s0nTFFL— Peter McKenna (@pmckenna) June 13, 2014
There's been good pick-up on social, too.
