Flags will be at half mast over Castle Quinn. Or at least in the stately Kildare residence of Niall and Gillian Quinn.

Their beloved, and beautiful, daughter Aisling and her long-term boyfriend Ashley Duane are sadly no longer an item. And they seemed to have such a bright future, too. But we'll get to that.

"It is amicable. We are still friends. We broke up two and a half months ago," Aisling told me. "We just grew apart."

This is especially dispiriting because Aisling and Ashley were shaping up to be a brand on a par with Brippa. They both called each other Ash, for God's sakes too.

They appeared together on the cover of the Sunday Independent's LIFE magazine as recently as May 24, with the headline: 'Young Love: Irish Modelling's Golden Couple'.

In it, the two 21-year-olds gushed over each other with the romantic gusto of those of their vintage.

"Ashley doesn't really know how great he is," Aisling said. "He is my best friend. He is very supportive and dedicated. He is great fun as well. We always have a good time."

And Ashley didn't hold back either. "Aisling is really caring and she always puts others before herself. She is really loving." She is now free to give her love to someone else.

They became an item in June 2013 at the K Club when Ashley turned to Aisling and told her: 'I have feelings for you.'

The following month, they jetted off to Barcelona for the weekend with Gillian and Niall. There were also trips to Berlin and Paris staying in a chic apartment off the Champs-Elysees. It appeared to be going so well.

For their first anniversary last year, the golden couple thought big: Ashley got Aisling a big picture of the globe with the precise instructions to scratch off the places she'd been to. "There is so much of the world that we haven't seen together," Aisling told LIFE magazine.

Alas, Aisling will have to find some other love to explore the world with now.

Rob and Jess put Argentina behind them

Rob Kearney and his girlfriend Jess Redden sunned themselves in Dubai for a few days last week. They flew out on Tuesday. And why not? It was a well-deserved break after Rob’s heroics during the World Cup. And what better way to put the memories of the Millennium Stadium behind them than to head in the direction of the beach in Dubai? The direction Niall Horan seemed to be going in last weekend was to Dawson Street. On Friday night, he was in 37 with a few friends and stayed until 2.30am. The One Direction star came back to the same establishment on Dawson Street on Sunday night, after his band’s show, with members of his management team and stayed late. He was  joined by RTE stars Kathryn Thomas and Eoghan McDermott, which, I’m sure, only added to the buzz in the already buzz-friendly 37 last weekend.

There was also plenty of excitement around the corner in Lillies Bordello on Grafton Street where TV3’s Alan Hughes celebrated his birthday with a bash. Those who pitched up to help Al mark his big day included Mr Pussy and Rory Cowan from Mrs Brown’s Boys.

With Spectre opening tomorrow, it would be remiss of me not to inform you that former 007 Timothy Dalton dined alone in The Unicorn by Fiorentina on Merrion Row last Tuesday and Friday.  I’m reliably informed that Timothy often dines  on his own-some in the Unicorn to read scripts. Dashing Dalton  (who played Mr Bond in The Living Daylights and Licence To Kill) usually goes for Gnocchi a la Vongoli, followed by Dublin Bay Prawns along with a glass of Valpolicella Ripasso.

The latter is served neither shaken nor stirred.

Blaise and sister Alex are re-made in Chelsea

You can’t keep a good woman down. Take Blaise O’Donnell. The young beauty formerly of Gorse Hill mansion in Killiney hasn’t let the trauma of losing her family home darken her mood too much.

I mean, apart from attending my end-of-summer party on the rooftop bar of the Marker in August, she was in Italy in June,  wearing some Jackie Onassis-esque sun-glasses on a boat off the Sorrentine Peninsula. In July, she was at Ed Sheeran in Croke Park and the Longitude festival at Marlay Park.

Two weekends ago, the gorgeous Gorse Hill girls (as was) Blaise and sister Alex jetted  to London for a girls’ weekend with friends. Blaise wore a bright orange dress to the Blue Bird cafe on the King’s Road in Chelsea where Blaise and her glam gang enjoyed passion fruit cocktails and dinner. How does your diarist know this? Because your diarist knows everything.

My spies in London tell me that they were all looking  like impeccably groomed members of the cast of Made in Chelsea. Afterwards, the gorgeous Gorse Hill girls then strutted to another King’s Road hot-spot, Embargo República, to boogie the night away.

The fun didn’t end there. Last Sunday, Blaise was spotted in the Bath pub in Dublin 4 enjoying the game. Maybe enjoying is the wrong word, given the result. But Blaise seems to take it all in her stylish stride. And long may she continue to.

Gas man Dylan returns from LA

The property boom is back: not in Ireland but in Costa Rica. This considered analysis comes courtesy of writer and actor Dylan Townsend who told me that his superstar bro Stuart has just bought  land in Costa Rica.

Dylan, who has just returned from Los Angeles (where Stu lives between there and aforementioned bolt-hole in Central America) told me he has created a comedy web series around hipsters called Hipsterverse.

“I pitched the show in the US and Canada and have met MTV, Comedy Central & VH1. I’m developing a second series called Gastown with Canadian actor Michael Coleman,” he told me.

“Think Friends but modern day with young twentysomethings in a juice shop,” Dylan added when I met him  at the 21st birthday party for Siam Thai in Dundrum Town Centre on Wednesday night.

Other hipster attendees included Krishna Naidoo and girlfriend Emma O’Farrell. They were due at U2’s show in London this weekend as a ‘distraction’ from the heartbreak of the death of Krishna’s beloved father, Krish.

Captain Nemo Micheal at son’s game today in Cork

I’m a fickle soul really. Make that very fickle. I bump into Enda  a few times and I  suddenly want to  have his love-child. Now  my new VBF is Micheal Martin.

We are meeting for an intimate dinner in Cork next month —  just me and the future Taoiseach (see,  I told you I was fickle.)

Anyway: my bessy mate Micheal, I can tell you,  will attend today, with  his wife Mary, the replay of the Cork County

Senior Football Final, where Micheal’s club Nemo Rangers face Castlehavan.

Their son, Micheal Aodh, is on the Nemo team. Lest we forget, Micheal Aodh caused a bit of a stir during the Marriage Referendum when he was referred to

as ‘the ride of the referendum’. Once his dad doesn’t take the electorate for a ride, eh?

Last night, the Fianna Fail leader and his other half attended the Mary Hegarty concert at the Cork School of Music. If that wasn’t enough fun for Micheal and Mary to last them a lifetime, they were also at the launch of the Cork Jazz Festival on Friday. Methinks there’ll be plenty of political jazz-hands whenever Enda announces the election date.

Fine Gael senator Catherine Noone can advise her boss Mr Kenny on  the musical arrangements. She and her beau of 11 months Barry Flanagan were at the wedding of Elaine Boyle and Paul Byrne (from Claremorris and Knock respectively)  in Cavtat outside D ubrovnik the weekend before last. The hotly tipped FG politician sang the psalm Wherever You Go  in the church in  Croatia for the newly weds. Given the lyrics go ‘Wherever you dwell, I will dwell/Your people  will be my people’, I have my suspicions that she  was secretly emoting to Enda.

Upon returning to these shores, the senator and her boyf hosted Irish movie star Chris O’Dowd for dinner in Leinster House.

Then last weekend Cazza and Bazza were at the Fine Gael Presidential Dinner in the DoubleTree hotel in Dublin with Enda and the gang.

Bono goes back to his roots  with Ali at Brooklyn premiere

Where would you get it but Dublin on a Thursday night? Bono — and his bonkers orange hairdo — putting in an appearance at the premiere of Brooklyn at the Savoy with his beautiful wife Ali. Would she not tell Agent Orange . . . sorry, I mean . . . her husband that he should go back to his roots? And that he looks like Mary Coughlan dressed up as a non compos mentis Lou Reed for Halloween with that cropped ginge look?

Stuck In A Moment In A Hair Salon You Can’t Get Out Of, anyone?

My spies tell me that Ali had lunch with Colin Farrell and his lovely sister Claudine recently when he was in Dublin. But I digress.  The only representatives of the Simon Carmody Community with the U2 singer were Guggi and Robbie Fox. Speaking of secretive, fraternal brotherhoods,  across town at the Freemasons Hall on Molesworth Street, the LauraLynn memoir was launched with great glamour.  Miriam O’Callaghan showed up after the IFTAS wearing her ball gown. David Norris was also present as was Ray Darcy (with wife Jenny) who launched  Laura and Lynn’s Story – Living in the Shadow of their Smiles.

The title had me thinking of poor Ali having to live in the ginger glow  of Bono’s new hairdo. Maybe she’ll write a book about it?
