So over: The Avoca life
We've reached fatigue point with the celebration of twee, as represented by the Avoca way of life.
We all know the hallmarks: plastic-coated, floral everything (raincoats, tablecloths, nappy bags, wellies); fetishising cupcake baking; grown women wearing clothes that only belong on toddlers (tulle; ballerina-style wrap cardigans, which make everyone look six months pregnant; velvet ballet pumps); bunting everywhere; too much costume jewellery; and the 'always on the right side of dishevelled' home style that goes with all this. It's exhausting and slightly childish.
Give us the understated elegance of designer Paul Costelloe, right, any day - he does modern and casual to perfection, but his aesthetic is always refreshingly grown-up.
