Some 84pc of people do not thoroughly wash their hands after handling raw chicken, and 72pc fail to thoroughly wash the knife used in preparing raw chicken before reusing it on salad vegetables.
This is the stark news published by Safefood, and is made worse by the fact that seven in 10 consumers believe that they prepare, cook and store food safely!
Dr Gary Kearney, Director of Food Science at Safefood said "by following our simple advice on good food hygiene consumers can reduce the risk of food poisoning for themselves and their families."
