Chocolate is one of nature's most generous gifts to mankind and it's no wonder really. From hormonal women to tantrum-prone children, the calming effects of chocolate are nigh on miraculous.

It's not for nothing that we use it both to seduce, and to soothe broken hearts. It's all bad news on the calorie front though. And on the sugar front. And the fat front too... everything in moderation.

Aldi Choceur Fairtrade Belgian Milk Chocolate 100g

(€1.39) Price per 100g - €1.39

This is a really good quality milk chocolate made from cocoa from Ghana (the cocoa beans are refined and turned into chocolate in Belgium). The result here is smooth, creamy and deliciously sweet. Per 100g, you get 574 calories, 7.9g of protein, 45.8g of sugar and 39g of fat. 5/5

Lidl Fairglobe Milk Chocolate 100g

(€1.39) Price per 100g - €1.39

This is also made from Ghanaian cocoa beans and is very sweet. It's not as creamy as Aldi's version.

Per 100g, you get 568 calories, 7.5g of protein, 52.1g of sugar and 36.2g of fat. 4/5

Green and Black's Creamy Milk Chocolate

Price (€2.69)

Price per 100g - €2.69

Slightly darker in flavour than I prefer from a milk-chocolate bar - although it only contains 32% cocoa (Aldi's contains 34% while Lidl's has 32%) - it tastes like it has a much higher cocoa content.

Per 100g, you get 570 calories, 10.5g of protein, 49g of sugar and 36g of fat. 4/5
