Dry Cleaning know-how

Smart Consumer has heard many times from readers whose clothes were damaged at the dry cleaners. While we're sure dry cleaners do an excellent job in most cases, you should know what your rights are.
A dry cleaning service should be carried out with the necessary skill and due care and diligence.
The care instructions on your clothing should be followed and if your trousers shrink or the buttons come off a jacket, they are responsible for putting it right.
Ask for the buttons to be replaced or produce a proof of purchase for the cost of replacing a ruined item. Be warned though, if the ruined item is old, you may not be entitled to get the full price back.
