Welcome to the future of banking! That is if you are a National Irish Bank (NIB) customer with a smartphone because they have just launched their free banking app.
It's not the first banking app in Ireland, as Ulster Bank launched theirs almost a year ago, but this one comes with greater functionality; it's almost the same as banking online.
The app allows you to pay bills, check account balances, view transactions and transfer money among other features.
NIB customers have lost almost half their branches since 2010, although you can lodge money to your account via the post office network. But given the NIB is owned by Danske Bank in Scandinavia, where people are less attached to cash and e-banking is more popular, it's no surprise that the bank is introducing their Irish customers to a new era in banking.
