It has come to our attention of late that a number of fashion journalists have pronounced the flip-flop dead, extinct, expired - call it what you will, but your trusty old Havaianas, according to those in the know, just won't cut it any more.

Well, we don't agree - and we're so in love with the comfort and versatility of our beloved flip-flops that we have no intention of parting with them just yet.

What is true, however, is that flip-flops and sandals are getting something of a high-end makeover this summer. For evidence, look no further than the runway at Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week.

Model-of-the-moment Bella Hadid (pictured right) strutted down the Dior runway on Monday in, well, a flip-flop, that wrapped around the ankle to meet her embellished peplum dress at the cut-off point.

And while we may not have the opportunity to wear our sandals with a ball gown à la Christian Dior, the good news is that we no longer have to confine our wearing of fashion's second-most comfortable footwear (followed by our trusty Skechers Flex - not the most aesthetically pleasing, but let's face it, they're like walking on clouds) to the beach, or worse, the gym changing room.

We've rounded up the high-street's top picks, so you can put your best fashion foot forward all summer long.
