One-offs to love
Savvy art collectors make an annual beeline for the college graduate shows, to spot new talents coming through and to invest in innovative pieces from artists that could be names in the future.
The same is true in the world of fashion, where there is always a surge of interest in the new graduates coming through. Final-year collections always vibrate with innovation and attract fashion stylists craving something new for shoots and ever curious, eagle-eyed collectors who respect bespoke creations and are prepared to pay into the high hundreds, and beyond, because originality thrills them.
Along with Ruth Ní Loinsigh’s Om Diva on Drury Street, Marion Cuddy’s store in Powerscourt Town House Centre is one of the gems of Dublin’s Creative Quarter. Marion has been nurturing a lot of emerging names, and visiting her store, I spied devilishly gorgeous coats by David O’Malley, quirky hats by Margaret O’Connor and silk neck scarves by Mariad Whisker.
Marion is currently exhibiting collections by the recent graduates from NCAD and Griffith college, which you can view on the top floor of the Town House.
Today, we put the spotlight on some of the designers who caught my eye, including Yi-Hsin Chen, who won the Helen Cody InternshipAward, Megan Carroll, Lisa Keating, Roisin Lawrence from Griffith College and NCAD graduate Ailbhe Doyle.
