Names in Sheeran's little black book
Ed Sheeran is an enthusiastic networker with an enviable line-up of famous chums, romantic and otherwise. Here are some of those lucky enough to have been officially designated Friends of Ed.
1 Taylor Swift
Ed and Taylor have been besties for years, with the Englishman having opened for Swift on her blockbusting Red tour.
However, their relationship has stayed firmly platonic - "I met her professionally first. We were writing songs and then I don't know, I just get on really well with her".
2 Ellie Goulding
The blonde pop maven is said to have inspired Sheeran's broken-hearted dirge 'Don't'.
"I never saw him as a threat," he sang. "Til you disappeared with him to have s**."
The third player in the murky love triangle is said to have been One Direction's Niall Horan, though Ed, decent to a fault, has asserted he doesn't hold a grudge.
"I got over the anger the moment I wrote the song," he said.
"It's a song that came at the time that I needed to write. That's the end of it."
3 Jennifer Aniston
Sheeran spent much of his early career couch surfing in Los Angeles, where he struck up an unlikely - and thoroughly non-romantic - relationship with the Friends actress, with whom he spent a boozy Thanksgiving two years ago.
"She has this crazy house with a big staircase that goes down to the pool," he remembered. "I had drunk a bit too much and needed a time out, so I went down and laid on one of the beds outside by the pool and passed out there."
4 Hilary Duff
Musical sparks have flown between Sheeran and the former teen star, who stayed up all night with Ed to pen a song for her new album.
As she recalled: "I had been picking my own hours when I was recording because I have a baby and everything but [Ed] had a whole day of press scheduled so we could only record at night, and we started around midnight. I was really tired... I don't keep these hours any more!"
5 Athina Andrelos
Though not a celebrity, Jamie Oliver-assistant Andrelos was Sheeran's long-term girlfriend, until their split early this year. Apparently it all came crashing down after a row at a post-Brit Awards bash.
Man-bun pioneer Hozier got to know Sheeran when both were touring America. At a Grammys after-party hosted by Mark Ronson they ended up locked in a bathroom together following a false rumour the police were about to crash the shindig.
