SKODA'S 'rough-road' Octavia, the Scout, will get here in time for the Ploughing championships and will cost from €33,795 ex-works.
It has been beefed up with what they call an 'off-road' look and can manage steep slopes with its all-wheel drive technology.
Emissions and fuel consumption are down 20pc but power and performance are up. Based on the Octavia estate, it has black plastic door sills and wheel arch mouldings and protective side strips.
Ground clearance has been raised by 31mm to 171mm. There is additional underbody protection as well as 17ins alloys. Of the three engines (there are two diesel, one petrol), the 2.0 TDI (184bhp) with DSG and all-wheel drive makes its debut. The 2-litre TDI (150 bhp) comes with a manual 6spd gearbox.
