Quattro sets Audi apart

Obviously it's unlikely there'll be many takers here for a €70,000 Audi A1 -- but the quattro brand is strong and this is very much a halo model.
For a start, there are the Q3, Q5 and Q7 SUVs, and the A6 and A4 all-road quattro estates, but four-wheel drive is offered across much of the range.
It's suspected that it'll be offered in the A1 in time, though the market for such cars in Ireland is minute.
However, while BMW and Mercedes-Benz continue with rear-wheel drive, quattro does help Audi differentiate itself. Obviously all-wheel drive comes into its own in snowy weather, but even on our regular damp and muddy winter roads there are huge benefits.
It'll be interesting to see how many buyers of the new-look A4 and A5 opt for the quattro option.
Twenty per cent of new Audis sold in January of this year featured four-wheel drive and Audi Ireland is hoping to increase that to as much as 40 per cent in the next three years.
