The styling modifications may be modest, but underneath the manufacturer insists it has carefully rethought or retuned the GT-R to offer the "world's best multi-performance and responsive driving pleasure".

The company has extracted more grunt from the car's already brilliant 3.8-litre V6 by tweaking the turbocharger's boost pressure and modifying the valve timing. The tinkering means the engine's output rises from 478bhp to 523bhp.

To better harness the car's pace, Nissan has installed a carbon composite strut brace across the engine compartment, thereby improving rigidity.

It has also modified the suspension to increase grip and improve the ride.
