New-car sales approach the 10,000 mark
NEW-CAR sales are touching the 10,000 mark this month as the first significant period of the 132-reg nears its end.
A total of 9,699 cars have been registered according to Motorcheck.ie with two sales days – yesterday and today – left for the 10,000 mark to be breached.
That is 190pc up on July last year when 3,335 had been registered at this stage. It is a huge number and narrows the gap on last year to 10pc.
However, some industry analysts are concerned at the number of hire-drive registrations and ask if the figures reflect real retail business.
There are also unsubstantiated reports of some stockpiling of registered vehicles – no doubt to be sold as nearly new over the coming months.
All of a sudden now the focus will turn to August and there will be renewed focus on how many more people will come out to buy. There are new models arriving all the time so in conjunction with some keen competition it remains a buyer's market.
