Mercedes cut prices

Good to see Tom O'Connor back in the big time. The former VW sales manager has been appointed dealer development specialist for Mercedes.

Mr O'Connor will be responsible for dealer development issues for passenger cars and commercial vehicles.

His appointment was announced after Mercedes revealed that the price of its new B-Class and M-Class motors would be slashed by 11pc and 15pc respectively.

The B-Class debuts in January and will start from €28,850 (ex-works) -- with a road tax of €104.

The B180 petrol will cost €29,400 when it arrives a month later.

The M-Class arrives in March. The M250 CDI BlueTEC will cost €69,900 (ex works) and road tax will be €447.

The M350 CDI BlueTEC -- road tax €630 -- will cost €74,900 ex-works.
