It's seven up for Kia as the new Sorento storms in

KIA has just brought out its new sports utility, Sorento.
There's more room with seating that can accommodate seven and a new 2.2-litre (197bhp, emissions from 171gm/k -- 28pc, €630 road tax) diesel engine that's teamed up with a six-speed gearbox.
As is so much the case these days, there are choices between four-wheel-drive and two-wheel-drive.
Prices start at €39,895 ex-works. In keeping with the trend to de-muscle SUVs, this is sleeker with handling and ride said to be much better. So too is the cabin, where there is more room and equipment. A significant development lies where you won't see as much as sense it. They 'ditched' the old way of bolting the body on to a frame and made the whole thing as one bodyshell unit (monocoque).
That saves weight (215kg) but also makes for better handling, which is, given that few really need or use 4x4, directed more at on-road driving.
All models have a choice of manual or automatic transmission. And there's the famous seven-year warranty
The new arrival is decked out in EX and GSE trim. Standard equipment includes 17ins alloys, dual air con, cruise control, audio remote control, plus an iPod and USB connection, ESP.
The GSE spec adds 18ins alloys, privacy glass, heated front leather seats and rear warning sensor.
