While we are all still struggling to accept the reality that Ireland is not at the Word Cup, Mazda is offering the Irish public a chance to be patriotic, to have some fun and design a new paint decal for Team Ireland's MX-5 race car.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Mazda MX-5. As part of the celebrations, Mazda Ireland has created an online design competition. The winner will have their design carried on Team Ireland's car at next year's European MX-5 Open Race.
It's simple to enter and the competition is open to all ages. Click on www.designMX-5.ie, where your design could come alive on a race track.
Mazda is offering lots of fantastic prizes, including experiencing the MX-5 race car at Mondello Park Motor Racing School, an Apple MacBook and vouchers for Apple products.
To encourage creativity across all ages, judging and prize categories are split into three age segments: under 12s, 12- to 16-year-olds and 16+.
The Mazda MX-5 representing Team Ireland has been modified to maximise performance on the track. All excess weight has been removed from the 2.0L (163ps) soft-top MX-5.
The driver sits in a carbon fibre racing seat and is cocooned for safety by an FIA roll cage and six-point harness. The sport suspension can be quickly adjusted to meet the challenges of the track, while the MX-5 grips tenaciously though each corner with slick tyres.
