CASE STUDY 1

Jonathan Dowdall, managing director,

Abco Electrical

Electrical contracting company, Abco, was set up by Jonathan in 2007. The first vehicle he bought for the company was a VW Caddy and he has been loyal to the model ever since. Four of the company's six-strong fleet are Caddys. "The Caddy is very reliable. It is also very comfortable and really good to drive. Some vans can be pretty rough around the edges, but there is nothing rough about the Caddy either with the interior, which is very well finished, or with how it drives. The guys love them and you never hear any complaints," he says.

"We have tried other vans from time to time but they can't touch the Caddy in my opinion. It is that bit more expensive . . . but you can't put a price on reliability and I'd rather pay a bit more and not have the hassle of a van breaking down in the country and the time wasted getting it fixed."

His drivers travel all over Ireland and put up a lot of mileage. Most weeks they spend €250 on each van on diesel. "That makes us very fuel conscious, so we like to try and keep our vehicles up to date to avail of the most efficient engines possible.

"We buy our Caddys from Frank Keane and they have given us really good after-sales service. I'll be buying another Caddy from them within the next few months."
