Passing the test

It was a proud day for Sam and the Spray household last Monday when my partner's four-year old Hyundai i10 sailed through its first NCT.
And for the first time, the car didn't smell like it was Sam's kennel on wheels.
We had taken the precaution of having a full pre-NCT check at Fairview Motors in Dublin where the car had been bought and, other than wipers and few small things, it was mainly enough to check everything was in order with tyres at the right pressure, lights working and the underbody clean. I had given the car a pretty good clean but four years of Sam had left their mark and we decided against a full four-hour valet for the moment.
I was pretty impressed with the ease of the whole NCT process. So easy to book online and then perfectly punctual and polite staff at the centre on the Naul road just south of Dublin airport. I arrived as requested 10 minutes early, registered, handed over the keys and sat down to read.
Soon the little blue Hyundai was tested at different stations before being hoisted up for the underbody inspection. Within a couple of minutes the TV screen was showing that I was to go to the desk where I was met and given the good news, disc and test sheet.
The whole process was over in less than 40 minutes and I was soon home. Sam's blankets, pillows and covers were installed ready for another two years as a mobile kennel. Happy days all round.
