SHANNON TO RETIRE; TORMEY TO TAKE OVER

THERE'S been lot of movement in the motor industry this past week.

One of the doyens of the business is to retire. Dave Shannon, who has been managing director of Toyota Ireland since 1994, will step down on December 31 next. And his deputy Steve Tormey will take over.

Hard to believe Dave initially joined Toyota way back in 1976.

He was subsequently MD of Daihatsu Ireland in 1992 but went back to Toyota as MD in 1994.

He will continue as an adviser to the company. I'll miss the jousts and banter.

O'BRIEN TAKES A BIG STEP UP

SEAT Ireland's brand director Cian O'Brien is joining Audi UK as its new Head of Sales Operations on September 1.

The 36-year-old Corkman has done a big job at SEAT here.

He takes over from Paul Sansom, who has been promoted to the role of MD of Audi South Africa.
