My side of the road
I'D like to meet the man (I'm assuming it was a male driver) who nearly killed me at Kiltoom, Co Roscommon last week.
I'd like to ask him why he pulled straight across the road (from right to left) in his large, white van and never checked to see if anything was coming from my direction.
I'd like to ask him if he got a fright when he saw my car and heard the screech of tyres when I swerved sharply in front of him to avoid ploughing into him.
I'd like to ask him why he sped away while I struggled to bring my car under control.
I'd like to tell him that we were both within inches of having our lives changed forever.
And I'd like to tell him I hope to God he learned a lesson that might save a life sometime, somewhere.
I'd like to - but I don't think it would make a difference. I really don't. There was something eerie about that driver's chilling disregard for the basics.
