Expect a stream of high-performance hybrids from Volvo over the coming years now the Swedish carmaker has taken full control of tuning specialist Polestar.

The company is renowned for taking Volvos and turning them into high-performance versions for the road.

It uses performance-enhancing software and tunes cars to increase mid-range engine performance by making changes to the gearbox and throttle response.

Now it is expected that its expertise will partly be re-focussed on providing more performance for Volvo hybrid powertrains.
