Why it is now so important you check out your boot for spare wheel
IT is an area we often overlook but Motors is getting quite a few emails these days about spare wheels.
As we know a lot of car makers now have repair kits or 'skinny' spares.
There is no point in waiting until something goes wrong - which has happened to so many of those who contacted us - to discover what you have, or have not, in the boot.
Or to find out if it will be good enough to let you drive at motorway speed.
Or, as is the case brought to our notice about one person in the west recently, to discover that the driving test requires that vehicles have spare wheels capable of doing 100kmh.
There are all sorts of spares out there as far as frustrated readers are concerned.
You need to know what you are getting and how far and how fast you can travel with them.
And you need to know how to work one of those tyre repair kits.
Of course you can get, or have, roadside assistance but it is important to know these things too in case you are stranded.
A spare wheel is often the last thing on our minds when we buy new or used, but it can be the first thing we need half way through a journey.
