Volvo tease with details of new S90 mid-size saloon

Volvo yesterday outlined first details of its new flagship saloon, the S90.
It will replace the current S80 later on this year. This will be a key rival in the mid-size executive segment for the likes of the Audi A6, BMW 5-series, Mercedes E-Class and Jaguar XF.
Based on the chassis and technology of the soon-to-arrive XC90 large SUV, it is said to be a real eye-catcher.
But we'll have to wait and see that for ourselves.
Some years back they showed a Volvo Universe concept and that appears to have had a major bearing on the S90's styling.
Expect it to be a lot more upmarket than the S80.
I've driven the XC90 and it has a wonderful cabin but the one in the S90 is reported to be even better. That should be something.
Engines will be very much in line with what is in the XC90.
That means there will be two diesels: a 4cyl 187bhp D4 and a 222bhp D5.
And then there will be the impressive hybrid T8 'Twin Engine'.
As we've reported recently, this has a supercharged and turbocharged 2-litre petrol engine driving the front wheels with an 80bhp electric motor taking care of the rear. The combined power is memorable to say the least.
