Volkswagen roll out the new Crafter, a 'big brother' for the Transporter
Volkswagen have just unveiled their new Crafter large commercial on the Irish market.
There are front, rear and 4MOTION all-wheel-drive versions as well as the choice of a manual or automatic gearbox.
In all, there are four, what they call, 'base' models, with three different lengths and heights. All the vans have updated diesel engines.
Also, in keeping with the alacrity with which passenger-car advances are being transferred to vans, the Crafter has a big range of driver assistance systems.
These include ESP with trailer stabilisation, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), a post-collision braking system, a side-wind compensation system, and trailer manoeuvring assist, as well as a spread of other stuff.
Prices start from €23,157 excluding VAT. Volkswagen also have a Commercial PCP deal which starts from €75 a week.
The van - deliveries of which begin tomorrow - is based on new architecture for outside and inside as it slots into the market as the Transporter's 'big brother'.
There's a new 2-litre TDI engine developed for it which comes in 102bhp, 122bhp,140bhp guises as well as a biturbo TDI 177bhp version.
Between choices of engines, roof heights, lengths, etc, they reckon they have most bases covered.
