Skoda's new RS230 powerhouse to cost from €36,500
THE latest powerhouse from Skoda will get here in July.
The Octavia RS230 (it gets its name from the brake horsepower - 230bhp - it develops) is expected to cost from €36,500 ex-works.
Naturally, it is all dolled up to convey its sportiness with design touches to the outside, cabin etc.
But while all that is important, the car's performance will be the prime focus for most potential buyers.
And that starts with the 2-litre petrol engine that develops 230bhp and sprints from a standing start to 100kmh in 6.7 seconds.
Top speed is 250kmh (156mph) and that, the manufacturer says, makes it the fastest series-produced Octavia they have produced to date. However, it still manages a claimed 6.4 l/100km (44mpg).
Standard equipment includes new sports seats, 19ins alloys, black-design twin exhausts and front grille etc.
And to help cope with all that power, they have tweaked the limited-slip differential (standard) to increase traction.
The RS range attracts a good number of buyers apparently. Since 2013 it has accounted for more than 6pc of all Octavia sales. The 2-litre TDI (184bhp) has been the big seller but the 220bhp 2-litre petrol TSI has its followers too.
There will also be Combi estate and DSG automatic versions of the new RS230.
