Say hello to KIA's Niro HUV and bye to VW's Beetle Dune
KIA has revealed details of its plans to have a brand-new low-emissions hybrid SUV on sale by the end of next year.
It is going to call it the Niro but is already describing it as a HUV - or Hybrid Utility Vehicle. Kia says it represents the development of its first 'dedicated eco-car' platform.
While still putting it through its development phases, the company claims the Niro will have the practicality and versatility of a compact SUV, but will be easier on fuel. It will be built as a dedicated hybrid vehicle.
And it has been described as a blend of the attributes and looks of the Nissan Qashqai, Renault Kadjar and Volkswagen Tiguan with the economy of the Toyota Prius - it is targeting emission levels below 90g/km.
Expect to see it in Europe late next year, realistically early 2017.
* Meanwhile, Volkswagen has unveiled its production-ready Beetle Dune for the Los Angeles Show. However, it is not coming to Ireland. Prices in Europe will start at €23,625 for the Coupe and €27,800 for the Cabriolet.
