Party for Mk II Escort as birthday No 40 comes around the bend

Enthusiasts will celebrate a rather special car at a festival this month.
The Broomhill Vintage Club will make a big occasion of the 40th 'birthday' of the iconic Ford Escort Mk II.
That is due to take place on Sunday week as part of Coachford's ever-expanding autumn festival's Vintage and Classic Car show.
The Mark II was the sort of car that people loved.
It was 'born' in 1975 and was to go on to become a household name and a famous piece of machinery.
Back then the Escort could be a family car - and, in some versions, a right royal rally powerhouse.
The 'Sport', 'RS Mexico' and 'RS2000' versions, for example, were to transform it into a legend in the hands of the likes of Billy Coleman from Millstreet.
Not to mention the world champion Ari Vatanen from Finland.
We understand that many examples of the Mark II have been carefully restored and are being cared for by motor enthusiasts all over - especially here in Ireland.
The organisers tell us that there will be a prize for the best car at the show and a memento for every car that attends.
They are also expecting a large number of other classic, vintage and veteran cars and tractors.
The Coachford festival itself takes place from August 13 to 16.. Proceeds go to Suicide Aware and local charities.
