Parking is biggest risk of damage to your car

PARKING poses the biggest risk of damaging your car, new research reveals.
And it suggests larger, bulkier vehicles - especially vans and SUVs - are partly to blame as well as poor all-round vision.
According to research by Allianz, parking shunts amount to 70pc+ of insurance claims (average €1,700) and around 85pc of 'full physical damage' claims (average €2,100).
In most cases, the accident occurred when leaving a parking space (84pc) as opposed to driving into one (16pc). Older drivers (65+) are involved in a third more parking accidents.
Part of the problem is the larger size and shape of modern vehicles - while parking spaces stay the same.
The findings emerge from research by the Allianz Center for Technology (AZT) and Continental AG. More than 3,500 traffic accidents were analysed.
Almost half of all claims (41.7pc) stemmed from a vehicle hitting another when reverse parking. And one-in-five 'driving manoeuvres' (20.1pc) involved two cars bumping into each other in reverse parking.
