MERCEDES have unveiled an armoured 'special protection' S-Class designed to keep its occupants safe from attacks and bullets.
The special 'Guard' vehicle will also protect you from explosions, grenades and mines.
There are reinforced body shells, double-plated welds, toughened and thickened glass etc.
Because it is based on the S600, power comes from a V12 twin-turbocharged 523bhp engine.
The cabin is virtually the same as the standard S-class but there is a panic alarm system, fresh air ventilation system, automatic fire extinguisher and roller blinds for all windows.
While they are not divulging prices, it is reckoned the upgrades would cost €200,000.
Mercedes to develop AMG Sports models
MERCEDES are developing AMG Sport models which will slot in under its famous AMG powerhouses. These will rival performance versions of competitors from Audi and BMW.
AMG Sport models will have calibrated chassis tuning, their own styling touches and upgraded engines. They will also have wider track to set them apart.
E-Class 9spd; new Vito van
MERCEDES is also putting a new 9spd automatic gearbox in its E-Class as an option. Standard equipment now includes the Collision Prevention Assist Plus system.
Meanwhile, its new Vito van gets here next April (range includes panel van, Mixto and people carrier versions). It is first-in-class to have front, rear and AWD options.
