Nissan's 'multi-fuel' cell plan
Nissan say they are developing a special fuel cell that allows many fuels - including ethanol and natural gas - to react with oxygen to produce 'high-efficiency' electricity.
They say the Solid Oxide Fuel-Cell (SOFC)-powered system that runs on bio-ethanol electric power is a world automotive first.
And they say the system would give cruising ranges of more than 600km - much the same as a petrol car.
Nissan claim the system would have several driving advantages including silent powertrain and sharp brisk acceleration.
