The old refrain of "Get me to the church on time" has seldom rung as true.

How about getting there in a red, 317bhp Ford Mustang with a 2.3-litre engine that powers it from a standing start to 100kmh in under six seconds?

That's surely enough to get anyone to the church on time?

Which is what it most certainly did for bride-to-be Sharon Crowe from Celbridge, Co Kildare recently.

She has long been a fan of the Mustang and it was her fervent hope that she would be driven to the church in one of the famous US icons on her wedding day.

But on the face of it that didn't look like it was going to happen.

However, Sharon's partner, Irish Army sergeant Peter Buckley, had other ideas - and was hatching his own plan.

He secretly arranged for a red convertible Mustang to collect Sharon on the morning of their wedding.

As you can imagine, Sharon was astonished when she saw the car pull up outside her house. She told us: "What a lovely surprise. It was really the icing on the cake for a fabulous day." She added: "I have always loved the Mustang so it made me feel really special to be chauffeured in one on our wonderful day".

As you probably know, the new Mustang, which got here earlier this year, is the first made in right-hand drive and has a suspension system etc attuned to European roads.

Peter and Sharon were married in Ballymagarvey Village, Co Meath last week and the happy couple jetted off for a Christmas honeymoon to Marbella.

We wish them a long and happy life together.
