One of the first conferences of its kind here - on the future of motoring - will be held in Killarney tomorrow.

'Electronomous' will be hosted by original Top Gear presenter and motoring rights campaigner Quentin Willson.

There will be a range of experts, including those from Thatcham Research and ESB Cars, giving their opinions and pointers.

The conference, organised by Cartell.ie at the INEC Killarney, will look at the implications and outcomes of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, Connected and Electric Vehicles, all of which have key roles in the 'autonomous' future.

It is hoped Electronomous will give a platform for experts to share their knowledge to help encourage understanding and take-up of electric vehicles.

We have been slow enough to buy electric cars. However, with so much technological change afoot, and with EU carbon fines hanging over governments, it is inevitable there will be more focus on electric to cut harmful, costly emissions.

So it is good to generate an Irish-type discussion on the advances and implications of electrification.

We continue to look forward to receiving comments through direct email contact or via social media, some of which may still be featured on the website Independent.ie
