BMW has updated its i3 electric car with a bigger capacity battery and longer range.
There is also a new charging system that is quicker, the automaker claims. The new i3 version is expected to go on sale in July. Potential buyers will be focusing on the increased range, in particular, as it goes from a maximum 160km to 200km.
Not alone that, but the new battery, being the same size as the existing one, can be retro-fitted to current models, though there is no indication of cost yet. BMW has also put in a new system which charges the car in 2hours 45mins on a high-powered AC charger.
It takes 10 hours with a standard mains socket. You can get an 80pc charge on a direct-current charger in 30 minutes.
The new battery pack can also be used with the i3 Range Extender (has a small petrol-engine 'generator' on board) and that drives up the range to 440kms.
