AUDI is showing its 600bhp TT clubsport concept at the Worthersee festival for fast cars this week.
Now close to being production ready it has an electrically driven bi-turbo compressor that helps the 5cyl 2.5-litre TFSI engine zip from a standing start to 100kmh in 3.6 seconds.
The festival is an annual coming together of Volkswagen Group enthusiasts.
The TT concept has quattro all-wheel drive, 6spd manual box, adjustable coilover suspension and a 48-volt electrical system to boost power/torque (total 650Nm).
The electric biturbo significantly improves sprint and pulling power. Close to making it in their TDi engines, they are moving it to petrol too.
Audi say the electrically driven compressor means the car can cover up to 16 metres within the first 2.5 seconds - six metres further than a comparable car.
The compressor quickly gets to top revs and continues boosting charge pressure after the exhaust gases for the conventional turbocharger are, well, exhausted.
