BMW pitches 5 into price battle
BMW has responded dramatically to price cuts by rivals and pitched their brand new 5-series at just above the €40,000 mark.
The company announced retail prices for the new motor yesterday. They say the price is “very close” to the oputgoing model and has much improved spec and equipment-but more importantly keeps it on the same street as the new Mercedes E Class which has had its price slashed.
Standard equipment now includes leather upholstery, Bluetooth preparation, USB interface, and automatic air con.Ex-works prices start at €41,7501 for the 520d priced with the automatic version iat €43,964. The 525d costs €52,370 (automatic€54,793) and the 530d starts at €59,130 (automatic € 61,553).
The 523i petrol kicks off at €51,750 while the wildly exuberant range topper 550i (automaticonly) costs a mere €93,560. Apart from the 520d, which gets here in late June,all models will go on sale from March 20.
There is just one sting in the tail.The delivery charge is €800.
