Audi’s A1 answer to the MINI
THIS is Audi's answer to the MINI. The German maker is claiming the A1 supermini will be the sportiest and most luxurious car in its class.
It is bigger than the BMWmade MINI (3950mm long, 1740mm wide and 1420mm high). But there's a sting in the tail – because with a mere 3cm more wheelbase, I don't see a lot of rear-seat legroom. Initially there will be a 3dr hatch but that will be followed by a 5dr Sportback and a cabriolet
as well as a hot S1. The new small Audi will be built on the same platform as the VW Polo, Seat Ibiza and Skoda Fabia, with tweakings to provide it with its own dynamic. The basic petrol engine is the 1.2-litre TFSI (85bhp, 119g/km CO2). It will be officially unveiled at the Geneva show next month; right-hand drive models expected late in the year.
