Audi plans to produce GT version of R8 Spyder
Audi has outlined plans to introduce a GT variant of the R8 Spyder early next year.
The new model, intended as a lighter and more focused version of the drop-top supercar, is likely to receive its debut at the Frankfurt show in September.
The Spyder will get the same 552bhp 5.2-litre V10 engine as the GT coupe, and, like that car, is destined to be produced only in limited numbers.
The manufacturer has released a number of official sketches of the car ahead of a special preview at Le Mans in June.
Expect the R8 GT Spyder to feature many of the same tweaks already seen on the coupe, which included a 95kg weight saving thanks to carbon fibre bodywork, reduced sound deadening and a thinner windscreen.
Audi's design sketches reveal a similar aesthetic, too, with that fixed rear wing instantly distinguishing the car from standard.
