Mindful moment… Make a new school year's resolution
Ah, September! The start of the new school year - a time for new pencil cases, new uniforms and new year's resolutions. Forget January, according to psychologists, September is the best time to get back to the gym, start that diet or sign up for that Italian course.
Rested from the summer break, the weather still bright enough to make us feel optimistic, we have more chance now of following through on our goals than we do in miserable January, when driving rain and credit card bills make everything seem doubly hard. So what do you want from the next 12 months? I've decided that instead of setting a list of things I want to do, I have a few ideas of how I'd like to feel. I'd like to feel healthy, energetic and organised.
So to that end, this weekend I'm going to the shops and buying a new diary and pencil case. I'll walk there and back to get my exercise and spend this weekend writing to-do lists. Whether anything on these lists will get done is another matter, but for the next couple of days at least, my goals will be achieved - I will feel organised, energetic and ready for the year ahead. I hope it's a good one.
