Yesterday my laptop would not start. I put the charger in but the light did not go on. I tried a friend's charger and it still would not work. I panicked. I had the book I am writing on the computer and there was at least a month of writing that had not been backed up. The thought that I'd lose it made me feel sick. Suddenly the work I'd spent weeks criticising now seemed too good to lose. My lost chapters might have been the best I've ever written! There were tears.

This morning I took it to a man who, after an hour and a half of critical surgery, fixed the problem (turns out salt had got into it and was corroding the insides). Everything was recovered and I have not had to buy a new computer. I am now on top of the world, excited to be back to the work that had been making me tired and stressed only a few days ago. Nothing has changed, except my perspective. Joni Mitchell was right: You don't know what you've got till it's (almost) gone. So what can you be grateful for today that you usually take for granted?
