An Irish woman will leap into wedded bliss with her boyfriend of more than six years after proposing live on radio this morning.
Valerie Sheehan from Carlow plucked up the courage to ask her partner Ray Byrne the all important question live on KCLR radio to celebrate the Leap Year tradition which encourages women to propose on February 29.
The producers at KCLR were on hand to capture the romantic gesture today, when Valerie asked her long-term love to marry her in front of the couple’s parents.
“We’ve been together for six years, and he’s going to kill me,” said Valerie.
“I love you with all my heart and you’re an amazing dad. That’s why I want to spend the rest of my life with you. That’s why today, in front of everyone here, live on air in front of our parents, I'm asking you if you’ll marry me.”
Delighted accepted Valerie’s proposal to a round of applause and tears of joy from those who witnessed the heart-warming moment.
"It was extremely nerve-wracking to propose on air. We've been together six years and we had been talking about it for a while. Everyone is delighted for us," said Valerie.
The proposal came after Valerie entered a competition on the station to win an engagement ring from Murphy Jeweller's in Kilkenny.
