Beth Wallace, founder of Bliss Ireland, an organisation promoting sexual freedom, says she'd be keen to try the new female viagra - as long as it's safe.

She says: "I've no issue with my level of desire but I'm quite experimental sexually and I'd be curious to see how it worked.

"If I felt the FDA approval was sufficient I'd like to investigate it… just like I did with male Viagra. I was curious and it wasn't an illegal drug or off the black market so I knew it was highly unlikely to do me harm.

"I did have some effect but it wasn't quite what I'd expected. I thought it would be like going from driving an old car in third gear to driving a 2015 car in sixth gear but the effects weren't that powerful.

"I've also tried herbal remedies, like a special tea, which had a similarly arousing effect.

"I think a female Viagra would be a good tool to have in the kit to use recreationally in an otherwise satisfactory sex life but I would be concerned about the medicalisation of female sexuality and the potential for ignoring other issues in favour of a pill.

"I also think it raises the question of how do you quantify a low sex drive. If you're happy with your level of desire then that's what's normal."
