If you're on the lookout for an imposing period residence to rent on the southside of Dublin, then this property on Queen's Park in Monkstown may be just the ticket.

This late Victorian double-fronted house stands in its own grounds and has been fully refurbished, but not with a contemporary eye towards steel and glass extensions, but with the retention of original features such as ornate cornicing, marble fireplaces, picture rails in the reception rooms and ceiling chandeliers.

Interiors and furnishings are comfortable, rather than items you'd be scared to touch. Modern alterations are confined to the huge fitted kitchen and some window replacement. A two-storey-over-basement property (the basement houses a separate self-contained two bedroom apartment), this home is accessed via granite steps to an impressive columned portico and smart green front door.

This leads into the hall, probably the house's most notable feature. A sweeping gallery staircase with original bannisters leads upwards in the centre to a double return before meeting itself on the landing. Children will have hours of fun playing on it.

On the hall level is a drawing room with marble fireplace and tri-panel bay window. This leads into the study which benefits from full-length windows and fitted book cases.

To the right is the kitchen, which is white on white, with hand-made units, granite work-tops and an island unit with breakfast bar. There is a gas Aga and a full set of appliances included. A seat is fitted into the bay window overlooking the garden.

There is a separate dining room and another reception room, again with garden views. On this level there is also a gym (or additional bedroom) and shower room.

On the first floor are five bedrooms, two ensuite and all doubles, along with a family bathroom. All are fitted with period-sensitive furniture and drapes.

In the basement is the separate accommodation, which comprises a kitchen, living room, two bedrooms and a bathroom. The entire house is included in the monthly rent of €6,000 so the property would also suit a family with an elderly parent or an adult child looking to live separately.

The location is just off Monkstown Road, in the village with its quirky restaurants and shops. The Dart line runs here and it is near to Blackrock, Dun Laoghaire and the coastline.

This is very much an executive let, and a company may be quick to snap it up for a CEO or the like. It might also suit a family in the midst of renovating or building elsewhere who want a comfortable home from home for a year.
